In a conversation with the digital outlet El Comarcal, Galician pianist Elisa Vázquez Doval explains her particular interpretative and programming philosophy.
“I spend a lot of time searching for valuable scores,” comments Elisa, emphasizing that she is not content with simply filling concert dates, but rather seeks to build programs with a clear idea and intention behind them.
The interview covers her early formative years in Mugardos and at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, as well as her specialization in contemporary music during her postgraduate and master’s studies in the Netherlands (Rotterdam and Utrecht). She also talks about the importance of championing composers like John Cage, Morton Feldman, and Toru Takemitsu against more commonplace repertoires.
